Now, more than ever, it pays to be a member of the OVCA!
The OVCA announced at its 2018 AGM that the remaining proceeds from the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier that haven't already been granted under current programs will be distributed to member clubs (that were members at the time of the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier) at the rate of $1000 per sheet.
This wasn't the only good news for member clubs that was announced at the AGM, however. Throughout the summer, the OVCA Board also approved the following:
- an increase in the maximum allowable loan from the OVCA Development fund. Clubs can now borrow up to $50,000 (up from $30,000) with a 7-year payback period.
- a "sponsorship" program for clubs. All OVCA-member clubs have been sent a sign to be placed in a prominent spot in their ice surface. Upon sending proof of installation, the OVCA will issue a "sponsorship" cheque for $500.
- an equal share of the 50/50 proceeds from the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings to all member clubs with with a qualifying youth program (defined as a program serving U-18 and younger)
- an increase in competitive team funding to $1000 to any team who qualifies for an eligible provincial, national, or international championship (to a maximun of $3000), up from $500 per event.
There are no changes to other OVCA granting programs, such as the Capital Projects Grant (for accessibility projects) or the qualifying League Grants.
The OVCA also presented Ken Thain awards to three deserving volunteers. Congratulations to Gerald Priestley of Eganville, Margo Burgess of RA, and Joe Pavia of the Hogline Curlers Proshop.
In other AGM news, the OVCA wished the best of luck to Bill Woods, former past president, and former secretary Kim Wilson who have finished their terms on the Board of Directors.
The OVCA also announced the following Board appointments:
