Curling is for Everyone

At the Ottawa Valley Curling Association (OVCA) , we are proud to celebrate and support diversity in all its forms. Whether you identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, are differently-abled, neurodiverse, or simply looking for a place where you can belong - you belong on the ice. We are committed to making the sport a welcoming space for all!

We believe that sport is a powerful way to bring people together. From inclusive language to physical spaces, we are working with our clubs to remove all barriers and create environments where everyone feels safe, respected and celebrated.

Championing equity, diversity and inclusion in every club, stone and pebble.

Resources and Policies

The OVCA is committed to ensuring that curling is accessible to all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, physical ability, or background. We actively support initiatives that remove barriers to participation by working with clubs across the Ottawa Valley and Outaouais to promote:

  • Gender-neutral change rooms and inclusive policies,

  • Accessibility for differently-abled athletes and spectators,

  • Safe spaces for 2SLQBTQIA+ individuals and allies,

  • Opportunities for curlers to thrive, connect and feel welcome.

As part of our commitment, the OVCA Board of Directors has competed Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Safe Sport training. We hope this helps us better understand, represent, and support the diverse communities we serve.

We recognize that policies are essential to creating safe and inclusive spaces. Several OVCA member clubs have already implemented such policies, and we encourage clubs to follow suit. For reference, here are some resources and sample policies to support inclusive facilities and club policies:

Ottawa's 2SLGBTQIA+ Friendly League

Formed in 2002, the Rainbow Rockers Curling League is one of Canada's most vibrant 2SLGBTQIA+ curling leagues. With weekly games, bonspiels, and social events, the league brings together curlers of all skill levels to share their love of the game in a supportive environment. It has 42 participating teams!

We're proud to support their efforts through our Curling is for Everyone grant.
